My intent is to depict a personal vision of hell, meaningful in this particular moment in human history. I have been actively experimenting with various means of producing imagery, abstract and referential, appropriated from graffiti, street signage, and accidental shadows. Using Dante’s device of descending rings I have adopted the construct of rings of highways, replete with their roadside panels and architecture, billboards, and lines of stalled traffic. In the process I have varied my media, using different methods of applying ink onto paper, hand-making wood blocks and rubber stamps, often from my own photographs.
